They say that emulation (or was it mockery?) is the greatest form of flattery. So we were charmed to see that someone had been inspired by one of our pieces of work to develop it further.
If you’ve read our deep-dive What is Solarpunk, One thing or many?, you’ll know we explore different shades of solarpunk. We invited readers to add their own shades and our solarpunk sister Claire provided templates they could use.
We’ve been delighted to discover that Patrick Barry, of Bakefold Print, has written a blog doing just that. He has taken our main shades and added two new ones of his own.
Patrick doesn’t quite get right the shade SolarPunk Stories like best. For example he thought our SolarPunk Detective stories are set in the fantastical shiny skyscrapers of Metropolis Solar, whereas they’re actually more Rooted Solar.
Nonetheless we really love that Patrick was stimulated enough by our piece he ran further with it.
What about you? After reading our deep-dive what shade of solarpunk do you most identify with? Are there any shades you’d add to our definitions like Patrick did? Let us know in the comments below.
PS - We would have let you know about Patrick’s piece earlier but he forgot to share it with us. We discovered it through a random Google search.
If you do share our content, or refer to it, we’d love to know so we can big you up you. Tag or email us if you do.

Founder, SolarPunk Stories
I'm sure I tried to share it back to you at some point, but to be honest, the chief value I got from writing it was reconciling the fact that all those different ideas of solarpunk in my head come from different motivations and don't need to be unified.
