What’s the weirdest manifestation of solarpunk you’ve seen? Like all the best cultural and artistic movements our scene has it’s odder edges. This update we look at some of the examples that have caught our eye.
Name your child solarpunk
Does your love of solarpunk go so far as to call your child Aurelian or Zinnia? These are drawn from this solarpunk baby names article by She Knows.
The weirdest one for us is Algernon. The article says this was drawn from the story Flowers for Algernon. In the story Algernon is a laboratory mouse who has undergone surgery to increase his intelligence. This tale’s most notorious adaptation was the decidedly odd 90s cyberpunk film The Lawnmower Man.
There are other unusual first names such as Hawke, Prosper and Avalon that we might use in upcoming stories. Would you choose any for a character in a solarpunk tale? Or give one to a future child of yours? Let us know in the comments below.
Solarpunk house-share
Talking of unusual names, Mars Robertson is advertising rooms for rent in Solarpunk Estates. This meme-loving man wants his suburban house in deep South London to be a community for nature and tech-loving dreamers and entrepreneurs.
As well as providing accommodation, Mars hosts events such as BBQs, working garden parties and an upcoming ‘Declaration of Memedepence’ 4th July celebration. Solarpunk Estates say they want to create a space for those whose interests range from ecstatic dance and kirtan self-development through to kitten towers.
You can find out more about Solarpunk Estates from its house listing on Spareroom and its Instagram account.

Stroking solarpunk’s fur
What do you get when you decide being a solarpunk and a furry are two great tastes that taste great together? That’s right, Eufuria 2025: Solarpunk a protopian-themed furry event coming to Albany, NY this 17-19 July.
This festival will feature fursuiters, contests, vendors, DJs, a dance competition and more.
Would you like to go to this event? Do you think there are any other scenes or sub-genres that might combine well with solarpunk? Give us your ideas in the comments.
Beyond words
Then there is ‘The Art of Living a “Solarpunk” Exhibition’ by the artist Winke. This simply defies verbal description. Check out the 5 minute video walk-through below.
Is this a show you’d like to check out? Have you been to any other solarpunk art installations that were a bit freaky?
For all of the above, are any good weird or bad weird for you? Let us know in the comments :)

Wow. What a hilarious collection of things!!
Love your newsletter and this was an especially great edition! Our Solarcore music-and art movement, a solarpunk-spinoff, is quite strange and fringe. Our website is solarcore.org. Sorry about the self-promotion but we strive to be unapologetically abundant and radiant like the sun!
