Solarpunks in the Pub
Open mic nights for protopia, solarpunk farms and more in our latest round-up
Raise a pint to solarpunk
Our friends The London School of Solarpunk are organising a protopian pub night every Wednesday this March at the Post Bar in Tottenham.
Upon arrival you sign an 'accept the weird' contract. From there you can engage in activities like 'subvertising workshops and use a time-warping postbox to send letters to the future. The Streetlight Soundsystem provides the bassline and there will be opportunities to jump on the mic and share what you are up to.
Members of The London School of Solarpunk, community organisers, activists and various creative practitioners will be there. Everyone is welcome from introverts to extroverts and everyone in between.
Upcoming dates: 12th March, 19th March, and 26th March
Time: 6–11pm
Location: The Post Bar, London, N15 4BP
Entry: Free
So if you can make it to London town this March check out Solarpunk Sounds to see what a protopian future could sound and feel like with a pint in your hand and a song in your heart.
Running towards joy with Solar Punk Farms and the Shelterwood Collective
Mother Earth News have done a great podcast interview with Nick Schwantz from our friends at Solar Punk Farms and Niko Alexandre of the Shelterwood Collective, an indigenous, black, disabled and queer-led community forest.
Highlights include Nick arguing solarpunk’s great power is it creates something people want to run towards, not away from. Niko also stresses how vital political engagement is to make a bigger impact. Both explore their queerness as a framework for restoring the relationships between humans and the land.
You can listen to the pod here.
The Many Benefits of Solarpunk Upcycling and DIY
In this Youtube Solarpunk USA discusses the environmental, social and psychological value of crafty fun. They explore how community sharing of knowledge and tools around repair are small ways we can build a solarpunk world and have fun while doing so.
Babe, wake up, the waterwheel is back
The Guardian reports waterwheels are making a comeback as an efficient, greener power source. This old-fashioned tech is being revived to provide energy independence to Himalayan villages and power restaurants in Northern Ireland.
